About Metadata & EXIF Removal

For JPG, PNG and WEBP images the tool strips the full EXIF data block by redrawing the image onto an HTML5 Canvas and re-encoding it. This permanently removes: GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude), camera make and model, lens information, exposure settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed), date and time taken, orientation, software used, copyright notices, artist/author fields, and any embedded thumbnails that contain duplicated metadata.
PDFs store metadata in a document information dictionary (Author, Title, Subject, Creator, Producer, CreationDate, ModDate, Keywords) and optionally in an XMP metadata stream. This tool uses pdf-lib to load your PDF, clear all information dictionary entries, and remove the XMP stream, then re-saves the file. The page content, fonts, images and structure are completely unchanged.
Office Open XML files (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) are ZIP archives containing XML files. The metadata lives in docProps/core.xml (author, last modified by, creation date, revision number) and docProps/app.xml (application name, company, total time edited). This tool uses JSZip to open the archive, blank all fields in both XML files, and repack the ZIP. Your document content is untouched.
Images taken on smartphones embed GPS coordinates that pinpoint exactly where a photo was taken — sharing these can reveal your home address, workplace or travel patterns. PDFs created in Microsoft Word retain the author's full name and corporate network username. DOCX files record every editor's name and revision history. Removing metadata before sending files to clients, posting online or submitting to publications protects your privacy and your organisation's confidentiality.
Yes. Images are processed using the browser's built-in Canvas API — the file is drawn to a canvas and re-exported as a fresh image with no metadata. PDFs are processed by pdf-lib running in your browser tab. DOCX/XLSX/PPTX files are handled by JSZip running locally. No file content, filename or metadata is ever transmitted to any server. Your data stays entirely in your browser's memory.
